“There is often in life people to whom ‘the worst’ has happened.
It’s a transcendent freedom, for they have faced ‘the worst’ and survived it.”

– Carol Pearson, The Hero Within (1986)

I would describe myself as one of those people that “the worst” has happened too.  Why?  Because during the course of 5 tumultuous years, I had an unrelenting roller coaster ride on my life’s journey.  I experienced: the unexpected birth of a handicapped child, surgical mishaps, the heartbreak of burying my daughter, the joy of my pregnancy with my son, and the terror of discovering a cancer that could terminate my baby and possibly end my life.

Although my personal tragedies occurred several years ago, before social media existed, these types of chance encounters with fate are constantly reoccurring today.

What I’d like to share with you is that, even through fate challenged and pummeled me with change; I was determined to courageously fight for my life.

I have faced the worst, and I have survived it.

I know there are others out there who are going through the same kinds of hardships that I have overcome, whether it is – raising a special needs child, battling cancer, attempting to navigate a bureaucratic healthcare/insurance system, or learning to cope with the heart wrenching loss of a child. I want this blog to be a community for those all those life warriors out there in need of Hope, Compassion, and Inspiration.

I may have been Changed by Chance, but I became my own Champion by Choice.  You can too!  Let’s hear it!
