With the infamous Philadelphia Art Museum as a backdrop, LBBC (Living Beyond Breast Cancer) recently hosted their annual “Yoga on the Steps” event.

It was a sight to behold! Thousands of people gathered on the steps of the Art Museum to support this worthwhile charity event to bring awareness to breast cancer. Men, women, children, young, old, experienced and novice yogi alike, all joined with enthusiasm and compassion to support and bring awareness for breast cancer research. Philadelphia media celebrity and BC survivor, LuAnn Cahn introduced the event’s coordinators – LBBC CEO, Jean Sachs, and master yogi and yoga instructor, Jennifer Schelter. Originally, it was Jennifer’s inspiration that brought “Yoga on the Steps” to fruition.

I volunteered at the LBBC tent where we greeted attendees, offered custom designed yoga gear, and handed out information about LBBC and its support services. Over $250,000 was raised at this wondrous event that morning!

When Jennifer started the practice, I pulled out my mat and joined in with the crowd for a truly unique practice that morning. Thankfully it was a beautiful sunny day and the stone ground radiated warmth through my mat and to my body. We ended the session, as is traditional, with “savasana” or a brief period of relaxation and meditation lying on our backs. I am shown seated in a photo as everyone else finishes their savasana.

“Yoga is the rule book for playing the game of Life, but, in this game, no one needs to lose.
It is tough, & you need to train hard, mentally & physically.
Yoga allows you to find a new kind of freedom that you may not have ever known existed.
Life seeks fulfillment, as plants seek the sunlight.”
