Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) held their signature Butterfly Ball this past Saturday night at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel. The Ball, an elegant black tie event, represents its biggest fundraising effort of the year. I was thrilled to be able to get “gussied up” to attend, even as a volunteer. Help was needed too, as there were over 500 attendees.

It was a stylish affair that featured two venues. The first was a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres area that was brimming with fabulous Silent Auction Raffles to bid on. I was amazed at the bounty of the donors for such generous items such as: high dollar value restaurant & services gift certificates; large screen TVs; vacation packages; designer bags, clothing and accessories, etc. There was even a 1 year lease for a Mercedes Benz. It was wondrous. All of these donated items allowed LBBC to meet their fundraising goal of over $500,000 for the evening.

Part two of the ball was a move for dinner to a room that featured a giant pink cake from Termini’s Bakery placed in its center. Then, after dinner, a fabulous band had the crowd dancing for hours.

As a volunteer I couldn’t partake in the signature cocktails or the dancing ☹ but the ball was an event that I was glad to have experienced ☺. The most fun was the people watching and the fashion show of chic gowns.

LBBC is a phenomenal source of support and resources for women and their families affected by breast cancer. I was fortunate to have them when I was diagnosed and in treatment. Volunteering for them is paying it forward.
