I want to thank Kasey Mathews, Author of Preemie: Lessons in Love, Life, and Motherhood for tagging me on adding my post to the “Next Big Thing Blog Hop”. It’s a great way for authors with blogs to connect their stories together online. Kasey has been an inspiration in so many ways and I am so happy to have found her and learned more about her own story. Be sure to check out her blog and book at kaseymathews.com. I hope this gives you more insight into my book!
What is your working title of your book?
Changed by Chance…Champion by Choice
Where did the idea come from for the book?
The book details actual events of my life. During a period of 5 tumultuous years, I was faced with several instances of life altering and life threatening events.
What genre does your book fall under?
I’d categorize it as a new age inspirational story because of several “angel moments” & serendipitous events that occurred.
Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
Me – Anne Hathaway, because she exudes the all American girl type – pretty but practical; personable and smart; but most important – believable.
My husband Jim – Ed Norton would best portray him with similar looks and also a sense of seriousness and sensitivity that the role requires.
What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
A true, heart wrenching story with practical advice about how to triumph over tragedy to survive.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It would be nice to have the clout of a publisher, but I’ll do whatever it takes to get it published. I am seeking a literary agent to represent me now.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
It was my New Year’s resolution for 2012 so I began writing in January. I finished the last draft at Thanksgiving. Because it is a memoir with lots of real life drama, I did not have to create a plot or characters. It was all there in my head for the telling.
What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
Although it is fiction, Steel Magnolias (I love that title). But, in my story the leading lady lives. Similar to Steel Magnolias, it is easy to envision the book as a powerful and dramatic movie.
Who or what inspired you to write this book?
I’d like to share the story of my life’s struggles with the expectation that it may help others faced with similar challenges. My goal would be to enlighten readers to see and understand the heartache and emotions of these situations and to know that they can fight and be victorious. Although it may sound trite, sharing my experiences will offer me closure.
What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
Reality TV is so popular now and this is a reality book. It gives readers a glimpse into the real life of a typical woman and her family and how they react to the unexpected cruel twists of fate. The fact that so many events occurred to us in such rapid succession is highly unusual. It makes the book hard to put down.
